Another addendum to the Gin & Tonic (Reply to this comment)
by janetvan
This may sound more like a gin mojito, but I swear my best friend "invented" it in the early 1990s. And we mostly did it to mellow the juniper in cheaper gins. But I just got a bottle of Bombay Sapphire from my hubby for a Valentine's gift (wow!! better than chocolate or flowers!!) and am going to try it tonight.
She added a sprig of fresh spearmint picked from her patio while we were sipping G&Ts one night. I don't think I've had a non-minted tonic since. I prefer orange bergamot mint, which is often sold in garden stores as "orange mint" or sometimes as "Old Spice mint." It grows like a weed in the ground, if you like such a thing, or it can be treated as a hardy annual in a big container if you live somewhere cold.
Seeing that there are so many other herbs involved in the Bombay, a mint as strong as spearmint or peppermint may overwhelm, but that's what experimentation is all about. The orange mint is more subtle.
Good luck and better gin!

What's with the HTML??? Why doesn't it put a link in the reviews anymore??? (in reference to your href command) Oh well, I guess our reviews will just look dumb until then..

Amen and Witness! (Reply to this comment)

I don't recall liking Gin before Bombay Sapphire came along. Now not only has the Gin & Tonic made it to the upper echelons of my beverage list but the Gin Martini has made it to the top. Try it with Gorgonzola stuffed green olives and be amazed!
